Abstract

A frequency reconfigurable printed microstrip-fed patch antenna is proposed here. The antenna consists of a microstrip feed connected to a circular radiating element divided into three patches which are connected through silicon PIN diodes used as switches for achieving reconfigurability as being cheap and easy to implement having high switching capabilities. The slots of different shapes are etched out in all the three patches to cover all used wireless local area network (WLAN) frequency bands, including 2.4, 3.6, 4.9, 5.1, and 5.9 GHz. A bias tee is designed and connected to provide a DC bias to the PIN diodes. A prototype of the reconfigurable antenna is fabricated and measured along with the bias tee. The measured and simulated results are found in good agreement.
