Abstract

Abstract
A three‐year‐old first lactation Flekvieh heifer was presented with sudden milk drop, anorexia and absence of faeces in the rectum after being perceived as fit and healthy the day before. Following medical treatment and close monitoring, an exploratory laparotomy was performed and a segmental volvulus of part of the small intestine was identified. Successful treatment involved relieving the intestinal distension and untwisting the intestine. This case was interesting as the cow showed minimal outward signs of discomfort and cardiovascular compromise with intestinal volvulus.
