Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc> </jats:title><jats:p>The transverse momentum (<jats:italic>p</jats:italic><jats:sub>T</jats:sub>) differential cross section of the charm-strange baryon <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\Xi}_{\mathrm{c}}^0 $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>Ξ</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mn>0</mml:mn> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> is measured at midrapidity (|<jats:italic>y</jats:italic>| <jats:italic>&lt;</jats:italic> 0.5) via its semileptonic decay into e<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>Ξ<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup><jats:italic>ν</jats:italic><jats:sub>e</jats:sub> in pp collisions at <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sqrt{s} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> = 5<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The ratio of the <jats:italic>p</jats:italic><jats:sub>T</jats:sub>-differential <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\Xi}_{\mathrm{c}}^0 $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>Ξ</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mn>0</mml:mn> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>-baryon and D<jats:sup>0</jats:sup>-meson production cross sections is also reported. The measurements are compared with simulations with different tunes of the PYTHIA 8 event generator, with predictions from a statistical hadronisation model (SHM) with a largely augmented set of charm-baryon states beyond the current lists of the Particle Data Group, and with models including hadronisation via quark coalescence. The <jats:italic>p</jats:italic><jats:sub>T</jats:sub>-integrated cross section of prompt <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\Xi}_{\mathrm{c}}^0 $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>Ξ</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mn>0</mml:mn> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>-baryon production at midrapidity is also reported, which is used to calculate the baryon-to-meson ratio <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\Xi}_{\mathrm{c}}^0 $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>Ξ</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mn>0</mml:mn> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula><jats:italic>/</jats:italic>D<jats:sup>0</jats:sup> = 0<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>20 ± 0<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>04 <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)}_{-0.07}^{+0.08} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mfenced> <mml:mrow> <mml:mtext>stat</mml:mtext> <mml:mo>.</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> </mml:mfenced> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>−</mml:mo> <mml:mn>0.07</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> <mml:mn>0.08</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> (syst<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>). These results provide an additional indication of a modification of the charm fragmentation from e<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>e<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup> and e<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup>p collisions to pp collisions.</jats:p>
