Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to develop novel insights into the development, implementation and evaluation of sexual violence primary prevention interventions, by drawing upon New Materialism and affect theory. More specifically, the chapter will draw upon this theoretical framework in order to explore the impacts of Let’s Talk About Sexual Violence: An educational intervention that was exhibited at the University of Leicester in 2019. We draw upon qualitative data from 31 participants who attended an exhibition tour and participated in a focus group designed to understand the impacts and influence of this ‘artful intervention.' The overall premise of the chapter-and the ‘artful intervention’-is that an understanding of New Materialism and affects enables the development of new approaches for communicating the problem of sexual violence and working towards more effective prevention solutions.
