Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc> </jats:title><jats:p>Measurements of the production cross-sections of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson (<jats:italic>H</jats:italic>) decaying into a pair of <jats:italic>τ</jats:italic>-leptons are presented. The measurements use data collected with the ATLAS detector from <jats:italic>pp</jats:italic> collisions produced at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sqrt{s} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic>1</jats:sup>. Leptonic (<jats:italic>τ</jats:italic> → <jats:italic>ℓν</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>ℓ</jats:italic></jats:sub><jats:italic>ν</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>τ</jats:italic></jats:sub>) and hadronic (<jats:italic>τ</jats:italic> → hadrons <jats:italic>ν</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>τ</jats:italic></jats:sub>) decays of the <jats:italic>τ</jats:italic>-lepton are considered. All measurements account for the branching ratio of <jats:italic>H → ττ</jats:italic> and are performed with a requirement <jats:italic>|y</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>H</jats:italic></jats:sub><jats:italic>| &lt;</jats:italic> 2<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>5, where <jats:italic>y</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>H</jats:italic></jats:sub> is the true Higgs boson rapidity. The cross-section of the <jats:italic>pp → H → ττ</jats:italic> process is measured to be 2<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>94 <jats:italic>±</jats:italic><jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ 0.21{\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)}_{-0.32}^{+0.37} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mn>0.21</mml:mn> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mfenced> <mml:mtext>stat</mml:mtext> </mml:mfenced> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>−</mml:mo> <mml:mn>0.32</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> <mml:mn>0.37</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>(syst) pb, in agreement with the SM prediction of 3<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>17 <jats:italic>±</jats:italic> 0<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>09 pb. Measurements in exclusive regions of the phase space, using the simplified template cross-section framework, are also performed. All results are in agreement with the SM predictions.</jats:p>
