Abstract

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Nuclear-structure studies using fusion reactions are reviewed in terms of prospects for advancement using the next generation of <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$\gamma $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mi>γ</mml:mi> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>-ray tracking arrays such as AGATA. Properties discussed include those of light <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$N=Z$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>N</mml:mi> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mi>Z</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> nuclei and rotational behaviour in heavy nuclei at high values of angular momentum and internal excitation energy.</jats:p>
