Abstract

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>A first search for the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $ \varXi_{bc}^+ \to J/\psi \varXi_c^+ $?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M3.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula> decay is performed by the LHCb experiment with a data sample of proton-proton collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup> recorded at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. Two peaking structures are seen with a local (global) significance of <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $ 4.3\,(2.8) $?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M4.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula> and <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $ 4.1\,(2.4) $?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M5.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula> standard deviations at masses of 6571 and 6694 MeV/<jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $c^2$?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M7.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula>, respectively. Upper limits are set on the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $\varXi_{bc}^+$?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M8.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula> baryon production cross-section times the branching fraction relative to that of the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $B_{c}^{+} \rightarrow J / \psi D_{s}^{+}$?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M9.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula> decay at centre-of-mass energies of 8 and 13 TeV, in the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $ \varXi_{bc}^+ $?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M10.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula> and in the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $ B_{c}^{+} $?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M11.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula> rapidity and transverse-momentum ranges from 2.0 to 4.5 and 0 to <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $ 20\;{\rm{GeV}} /{c} $?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M12.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula>, respectively. Upper limits are presented as a function of the <jats:inline-formula> <jats:tex-math><?CDATA $ \varXi_{bc}^+ $?></jats:tex-math> <jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="cpc_47_9_093001_M13.jpg" xlink:type="simple" /> </jats:inline-formula> mass and lifetime.</jats:p>
