Abstract

Abstract
Contracts, with their focus on safeguarding a firm’s interests, traditionally, have been considered to be incompatible with collaborative relationships. This chapter explains the basis for this incompatibility and considers how it may be resolved. The key to ensuring that contracts complement collaboration is in the way the coordination function of contracts is aligned with mutuality and consequent trust development. Even dysfunctional relationships may then be repaired.
