Abstract

In the four years since 2018, the Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool, has undertaken a range of initiatives to promote women in physics and these are described in this paper. In addition, there has been a fivefold increase in the number of female professors in the department and an enhanced profile of female physicists resulting from their senior leadership roles in the department, wider university and beyond. However, despite the progress made, female physicists are still underrepresented at all levels. Further initiatives and work are planned and an overview given here. Finally, while women in physics remains a very high priority for our department, there is an ever-increasing focus on intersectionality and broader equality, diversity and inclusivity initiatives.
