Abstract

To mitigate or minimize the effect of explosions and save lives, assets, and resources, a diverse range of methods has been applied to protect civil infrastructures against potential blast loads. Particularly, lightweight concrete has recently been investigated as a building block for protective walls against explosions in confined structures. However, the effect of configuring multiple walls against blast loads has not been examined yet. In this paper, we perform a numerical parametric study on various factors affecting the performance of multiple layers of walls composed of lightweight concrete blocks and their effect on blast wave pressure reduction in a blast shelter.
