Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc> </jats:title><jats:p>A search is presented for single production of a vector-like <jats:italic>B</jats:italic> quark decaying into a Standard Model <jats:italic>b</jats:italic>-quark and a Standard Model Higgs boson, which decays into a <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ b\overline{b} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mi>b</mml:mi> <mml:mover> <mml:mi>b</mml:mi> <mml:mo>¯</mml:mo> </mml:mover> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> pair. The search is carried out in 139 fb<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic>1</jats:sup> of <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sqrt{s} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC between 2015 and 2018. No significant deviation from the Standard Model background prediction is observed, and mass-dependent exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the resonance production cross-section in several theoretical scenarios determined by the couplings <jats:italic>c</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>W</jats:italic></jats:sub>, <jats:italic>c</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>Z</jats:italic></jats:sub> and <jats:italic>c</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>H</jats:italic></jats:sub> between the <jats:italic>B</jats:italic> quark and the Standard Model <jats:italic>W</jats:italic>, <jats:italic>Z</jats:italic> and Higgs bosons, respectively. For a vector-like <jats:italic>B</jats:italic> occurring as an isospin singlet, the search excludes values of <jats:italic>c</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>W</jats:italic></jats:sub> greater than 0.45 for a <jats:italic>B</jats:italic> resonance mass (<jats:italic>m</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>B</jats:italic></jats:sub>) between 1.0 and 1.2 TeV. For 1<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>2 TeV <jats:italic>&lt; m</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>B</jats:italic></jats:sub><jats:italic>&lt;</jats:italic> 2<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>0 TeV, <jats:italic>c</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>W</jats:italic></jats:sub> values larger than 0.50–0.65 are excluded. If the <jats:italic>B</jats:italic> occurs as part of a (<jats:italic>B, Y</jats:italic>) doublet, the smallest excluded <jats:italic>c</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>Z</jats:italic></jats:sub> coupling values range between 0.3 and 0.5 across the investigated resonance mass range 1<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>0 TeV <jats:italic>&lt; m</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>B</jats:italic></jats:sub><jats:italic>&lt;</jats:italic> 2<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>0 TeV.</jats:p>
