Abstract

This unbiased neuroimaging study aims to identify the influence of mild to moderate hearing loss on brain connective pattern. Data were obtained using resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Twenty subjects with mild to moderate hearing loss (MH) and twenty normal hearing (NH) controls were recruited in this study. Independent component analysis was conducted in this study, and revealed that mild to moderate hearing loss group (MH) showed a significant increase of functional connectivity in two out of 30 component networks that are auditory and attention rest state networks compared to normal hearing group (NH). Mild to moderate hearing loss groups showed a significant increase of functional connectivity in right middle frontal gyrus for auditory RSN and right precentral gyrus for attention RSN. Our results demonstrated that brain connectivity pattern is altered by hearing loss in auditory and attention resting state networks. These alterations showed the involvement of auditory and non-auditory networks in the influence of hearing loss in functional connective.
