Abstract

It is shown how Fiedler's 'small state-sum' invariant for a braid β can be calculated from the 2-variable Alexander polynomial of the link which consists of the closed braid β̂ together with the braid axis A. © 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
