Abstract

This work provides exact and approximated (more tractable) expressions for the evaluation of the outage probability and average error performance of a wide range of modulation schemes under Nakagami-q (Hoyt) and Nakagami-n (Rice) fading channels. While the exact theoretical results (obtained by direct integration over the fading statistics) are given in infinite series form, a convergence analysis indicates that truncated versions of the series with very few terms are able to provide accurate estimates, thus leading to several analytically tractable yet accurate approximations. The comparison with simulation results corroborates the correctness of the exact theoretic expressions as well as the accuracy of their approximated forms.
