It first examines major trends and characteristics of internal migration in mainland ChinaChina, and then elaborates links between internal migrationSocio-economic development and socio-economic developmentDevelopment. China is a vast country with diverse geographical, demographic, cultural, Cultural and socio-economic conditions across different regionsRegions. It is therefore important to evaluate its urban developmentUrban development in a systematic manner regarding issues of regional inequalitiesRegional inequalities, as well as the associated challengesChallengesand opportunitiesOpportunities of internal migrationMigration in affecting urban employmentUrban employmentand povertyPoverty.
