Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc> </jats:title><jats:p>Four decay modes of the <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {B}_c^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>B</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> meson into a <jats:italic>J/ψ</jats:italic> meson and multiple charged kaons or pions are studied using proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic>1</jats:sup>. The decay <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {B}_c^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>B</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula><jats:italic>→ J/ψK</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup><jats:italic>K</jats:italic><jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup><jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup><jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup><jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup> is observed for the first time, and evidence for the <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {B}_c^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>B</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula><jats:italic>→ J/ψ</jats:italic>4<jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup>3<jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup> decay is found. The decay <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {B}_c^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>B</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula><jats:italic>→ J/ψ</jats:italic>3<jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup>2<jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup> is observed and the previous observation of the <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {B}_c^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>B</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula><jats:italic>→ ψ</jats:italic>(2<jats:italic>S</jats:italic>)<jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup><jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup><jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup> decay is confirmed using the <jats:italic>ψ</jats:italic>(2<jats:italic>S</jats:italic>) → <jats:italic>J/ψπ</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup><jats:italic>π</jats:italic><jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup> decay mode. Ratios of the branching fractions of these four <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {B}_c^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>B</mml:mi> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> decay channels are measured.</jats:p>
