Executive Summary

This working paper provides an overview of a series of workshops undertaken by the DDRC ‘Attitudes to Data’ work team across the second half of 2023. It introduces our workshops, justifying their necessity and outlining our key research questions. It outlines the use of LEGO® within research and the importance of data to the UK’s national security going forward, outlining the scope and necessity of our ongoing project and validating our approach to conducting this vital work. The paper subsequently discusses some key concepts and links identified by our workshop participants, drawn from Government agencies, public, and private institutions, before offering some conclusions and opportunities for further research. Details on the workshops can be found in the annex, and the paper includes several figures illustrating the wider themes discussed.
