Abstract

This reflective article discusses Scausländer , the non-assessed online student newspaper project I introduced to level 6 final-year students in German at the University of Liverpool (UoL). The project addresses strategic needs in languages through its student ownership and its publicizing of students’ language proficiency in an authentic format, hosted by students on commercial platforms outside the university. In this article, I reflect on the pedagogic interventions developed to leverage the project’s flexibility allowing it to enter all levels of study in German over multiple years and potentially be extended across other language and non-language subject areas.
