Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc> </jats:title> <jats:p>The first full amplitude analysis of <jats:italic>B</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> → <jats:italic>ψ</jats:italic>(2<jats:italic>S</jats:italic>)<jats:italic>K</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> <jats:italic>π</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> <jats:italic>π</jats:italic> <jats:sup>−</jats:sup> decays is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup> recorded with the LHCb detector. The rich <jats:italic>K</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> <jats:italic>π</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> <jats:italic>π</jats:italic> <jats:sup>−</jats:sup> spectrum is studied and the branching fractions of the resonant substructure associated with the prominent <jats:italic>K</jats:italic> <jats:sub>1</jats:sub>(1270)<jats:sup>+</jats:sup> contribution are measured. The data cannot be described by conventional strange and charmonium resonances only. An amplitude model with 53 components is developed comprising 11 hidden-charm exotic hadrons. New production mechanisms for charged charmonium-like states are observed. Significant resonant activity with spin-parity <jats:italic>J</jats:italic> <jats:sup> <jats:italic>P</jats:italic> </jats:sup> = 1<jats:sup>+</jats:sup> in the <jats:italic>ψ</jats:italic>(2<jats:italic>S</jats:italic>)<jats:italic>π</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> system is confirmed and a multi-pole structure is demonstrated. The spectral decomposition of the <jats:italic>ψ</jats:italic>(2<jats:italic>S</jats:italic>)<jats:italic>π</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> <jats:italic>π</jats:italic> <jats:sup>−</jats:sup> invariant-mass structure, dominated by <jats:italic>X</jats:italic> <jats:sup>0</jats:sup> → <jats:italic>ψ</jats:italic>(2<jats:italic>S</jats:italic>)<jats:italic>ρ</jats:italic>(770)<jats:sup>0</jats:sup> decays, broadly resembles the <jats:italic>J</jats:italic>/<jats:italic>ψϕ</jats:italic> spectrum observed in <jats:italic>B</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> → <jats:italic>J</jats:italic>/<jats:italic>ψϕK</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> decays. Exotic <jats:italic>ψ</jats:italic>(2<jats:italic>S</jats:italic>)<jats:italic>K</jats:italic> <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> <jats:italic>π</jats:italic> <jats:sup>−</jats:sup> resonances are observed for the first time.</jats:p>
