Abstract

<jats:p>Acoustics research was established at the University of Liverpool in the middle of the 20th century in the department of physics which led to the formation of the Acoustics Research Unit (ARU) in the mid-1970s as part of the department of building engineering and then architecture. This article reviews the history and legacy of the research group that has worked on airborne and structure-borne sound over a 70 year period.</jats:p>
