Executive Summary

Knowledge about finances, pensions and saving is important for individuals’ financial resilience across the life course. Improving younger persons’ financial knowledge can better prepare them for making financial decisions throughout their life. With the aim of improving engagement with financial knowledge and increasing motivation for learning, the research team developed a customised board game on financial resilience, drawing on the findings of a research project at the University of Southampton’s Centre for Research on Ageing. To improve take up of the game, the materials were co-developed with staff and pupils at Cantell School, a secondary school in England. This briefing summarises the impact of this activity on the financial knowledge of 1,030 pupils in Years 10 and 11 between March 2024 and April 2026.
