Executive Summary

This report presents findings from a survey facilitated between January and May 2026. Conducted as a scoping exercise to inform future research, the study aimed to map the impact measurement landscape of IT Reuse for Good (ITRfG) organisations, explore organisational understandings of potential rebound effects associated with ITRfG programmes, and identify emerging areas of need within the sector. The findings indicate agreement among respondents that ITRfG programmes generate substantial social and environmental benefits. Reported impacts include reducing electronic waste, supporting circular economy objectives, promoting digital inclusion, and enabling access to education, employment, and online services. While respondents generally perceived the benefits of IT reuse programmes to outweigh potential drawbacks, concerns were raised regarding transport-related emissions, digital safety risks, unequal access to devices, and the possibility of unintended impacts on local repair ecosystems. This report provides a descriptive overview of the survey results. It is intended to support future research by identifying emerging themes, current measurement practices, and areas requiring further investigation within the IT Reuse for Good sector. The statistics and graphs were produced by the Jisc platform and examples from the free-response questions are presented throughout the report verbatim.
