Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc> </jats:title><jats:p>The production cross-sections of <jats:italic>J/ψ</jats:italic> mesons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sqrt{s} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> = 5 TeV are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>13 ± 0<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>18 pb<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic>1</jats:sup>, collected by the LHCb experiment. The cross-sections are measured differentially as a function of transverse momentum, <jats:italic>p</jats:italic><jats:sub>T</jats:sub>, and rapidity, <jats:italic>y</jats:italic>, and separately for <jats:italic>J/ψ</jats:italic> mesons produced promptly and from beauty hadron decays (nonprompt). These cross-sections are compared with those at <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sqrt{s} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> = 8 TeV and 13 TeV, and are used to update the measurement of the nuclear modification factor in proton-lead collisions for <jats:italic>J/ψ</jats:italic> mesons at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:msub> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> <mml:mi>NN</mml:mi> </mml:msub> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> = 5 TeV. The results are compared with theoretical predictions.</jats:p>
