Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc></jats:title><jats:p>Using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic>1</jats:sup>collected with the LHCb detector, seven decay modes of the<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mi>c</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msubsup></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>meson into a J<jats:italic>/</jats:italic>ψ or ψ(2S) meson and three charged hadrons, kaons or pions, are studied. The decays<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mi>c</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msubsup></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>→ (ψ(2S) → J<jats:italic>/</jats:italic>ψπ<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>π<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup>)π<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>,<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mi>c</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msubsup></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>→ ψ(2S)π<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>π<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup>π<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>,<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mi>c</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msubsup></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>→ J<jats:italic>/</jats:italic>ψK<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>π<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup>π<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>and<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mi>c</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msubsup></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>→ J<jats:italic>/</jats:italic>ψK<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>K<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup>K<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>are observed for the first time, and evidence for the<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mi>c</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msubsup></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>→ ψ(2S)K<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>K<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup>π<jats:sup>+</jats:sup>, decay is found, where J<jats:italic>/</jats:italic>ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed in their dimuon decay modes. The ratios of branching fractions between the different<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{+} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi>B</mml:mi><mml:mi>c</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msubsup></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>decays are reported as well as the fractions of the decays proceeding via intermediate resonances. The results largely support the factorisation approach used for a theoretical description of the studied decays.</jats:p>
