Abstract
This thesis describes experimental studies of water adsorption on the Ru (0001) and Ni (111) single crystal surfaces. On the model Ru(OOO1) surface, H₂O and D₂O form intact wetting layers that are very sensitive to the preparation conditions, electron beam irradiation and surface contamination.
