Abstract

This work presents exact and approximated expressions for the outage probability and average error performance of modulation schemes under η-μ and κ-μ fading channels. Under physical fading models the analytical results can be expressed in terms of elementary functions of the relevant parameters, which not only leads to more tractable expressions but also more efficient numerical evaluations. Simple asymptotic approximations are derived as well. While exact results are given in infinite series forms, a convergence analysis demonstrates that truncated versions of the series with very few terms can achieve the desired level of accuracy. The comparison with simulation results demonstrates the correctness of the exact theoretic expressions as well as the accuracy of their approximated forms.
