Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc></jats:title><jats:p>A precision measurement of the<jats:italic>Z</jats:italic>boson production cross-section at<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sqrt{\mathrm{s}} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:msqrt><mml:mi>s</mml:mi></mml:msqrt></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>= 13 TeV in the forward region is presented, using<jats:italic>pp</jats:italic>collision data collected by the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 fb<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic>1</jats:sup>. The production cross-section is measured using<jats:italic>Z → μ</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup><jats:italic>μ</jats:italic><jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic></jats:sup>events within the fiducial region defined as pseudorapidity 2<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>0<jats:italic>&lt; η &lt;</jats:italic>4<jats:italic>.</jats:italic>5 and transverse momentum<jats:italic>p</jats:italic><jats:sub>T</jats:sub><jats:italic>&gt;</jats:italic>20 GeV<jats:italic>/c</jats:italic>for both muons and dimuon invariant mass 60<jats:italic>&lt; M</jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>μμ</jats:italic></jats:sub><jats:italic>&lt;</jats:italic>120 GeV<jats:italic>/c</jats:italic><jats:sup>2</jats:sup>. The integrated cross-section is determined to be<jats:disp-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sigma \left(Z\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=196.4\pm 0.2\pm 1.6\pm 3.9\ \mathrm{pb}, $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>σ</mml:mi><mml:mfenced><mml:mrow><mml:mi>Z</mml:mi><mml:mo>→</mml:mo><mml:msup><mml:mi>μ</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msup><mml:msup><mml:mi>μ</mml:mi><mml:mo>−</mml:mo></mml:msup></mml:mrow></mml:mfenced><mml:mo>=</mml:mo><mml:mn>196.4</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>0.2</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>1.6</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>3.9</mml:mn><mml:mspace /><mml:mi>pb</mml:mi><mml:mo>,</mml:mo></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:disp-formula></jats:p><jats:p>where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the luminosity determination. The measured results are in agreement with theoretical predictions within uncertainties.</jats:p>
