Abstract

<jats:title>A<jats:sc>bstract</jats:sc> </jats:title><jats:p>Differential and double-differential distributions of kinematic variables of leptons from decays of top-quark pairs (<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ t\overline{t} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mover> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>¯</mml:mo> </mml:mover> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>) are measured using the full LHC Run 2 data sample collected with the ATLAS detector. The data were collected at a <jats:italic>pp</jats:italic> collision energy of <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ \sqrt{s} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msqrt> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> </mml:msqrt> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> = 13 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb<jats:sup><jats:italic>−</jats:italic>1</jats:sup>. The measurements use events containing an oppositely charged <jats:italic>eμ</jats:italic> pair and <jats:italic>b</jats:italic>-tagged jets. The results are compared with predictions from several Monte Carlo generators. While no prediction is found to be consistent with all distributions, a better agreement with measurements of the lepton <jats:italic>p</jats:italic><jats:sub>T</jats:sub> distributions is obtained by reweighting the <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ t\overline{t} $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mover> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>¯</mml:mo> </mml:mover> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> sample so as to reproduce the top-quark <jats:italic>p</jats:italic><jats:sub>T</jats:sub> distribution from an NNLO calculation. The inclusive top-quark pair production cross-section is measured as well, both in a fiducial region and in the full phase-space. The total inclusive cross-section is found to be<jats:disp-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$$ {\sigma}_{t\overline{t}}=829\pm 1\ \left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 13\ \left(\textrm{syst}\right)\pm 8\ \left(\textrm{lumi}\right)\pm 2\ \left(\textrm{beam}\right)\ \textrm{pb}, $$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msub> <mml:mi>σ</mml:mi> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mover> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>¯</mml:mo> </mml:mover> </mml:mrow> </mml:msub> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mn>829</mml:mn> <mml:mo>±</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> <mml:mspace /> <mml:mfenced> <mml:mtext>stat</mml:mtext> </mml:mfenced> <mml:mo>±</mml:mo> <mml:mn>13</mml:mn> <mml:mspace /> <mml:mfenced> <mml:mtext>syst</mml:mtext> </mml:mfenced> <mml:mo>±</mml:mo> <mml:mn>8</mml:mn> <mml:mspace /> <mml:mfenced> <mml:mtext>lumi</mml:mtext> </mml:mfenced> <mml:mo>±</mml:mo> <mml:mn>2</mml:mn> <mml:mspace /> <mml:mfenced> <mml:mtext>beam</mml:mtext> </mml:mfenced> <mml:mspace /> <mml:mi>pb</mml:mi> <mml:mo>,</mml:mo> </mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:disp-formula></jats:p><jats:p>where the uncertainties are due to statistics, systematic effects, the integrated luminosity and the beam energy.
